Brought up, not led out被养大，不是被领出去
English educate comes from Latin educare, to bring up, to rear, to train. A child is raised. An animal is reared. A mind is trained. That is the verb we inherited.
Beside it stands educere, to lead out, from ducere, to lead. The slogan that education means leading a pupil out of ignorance is famous, and it points at the sister verb. It is a poor account of the verb educare. The two are related. They are not the same word, and the slogan has made them seem interchangeable.
This gallery is about leading, so educate is here on purpose, with the correction written on the label. Produce really does lead forth. Conduct really does lead together. Educate brings up. The difference is the exhibit.
