The view in front面前的景色
Latin prospicere looks forward: pro-, before or forth, and specere, to look. Prospectus is the thing seen ahead, a view. English kept the view, then let it become a future: a prospect of rain, a prospect of work, the prospects of a person.
Respect looks back and settles into esteem. Prospect looks forward and settles into chance. The geometry is almost too neat, and it is still the real history. Neither word, in ordinary English, still means a turn of the head. The turn survived as a metaphor with the body edited out.
Perspective is the relative who looks through, toward a point. Prospect prefers the open distance.
拉丁语 prospicere 向前看：pro-（在前或向前）加 specere（看）。Prospectus 是前方所见，一处景色。英语留下了景色，又让它变成一种未来：下雨的可能，工作的可能，一个人的前途。
respect 回头看，落成敬意。prospect 向前看，落成机会。这套几何几乎太整齐，它仍是真实的历史。在日常英语里，两个词都不再表示转头。转头活成一个比喻，身体被删掉了。
perspective 是那个透过去看、朝向一个点的亲戚。prospect 更喜欢敞开的远处。
