From Latin spectare, to watch, itself from specere, to look. Spectaculum is something to be watched. English borrowed the show, and later used the plural for eyeglasses.来自拉丁语 spectare（观看），而 spectare 来自 specere（看）。spectaculum 是被观看的东西。英语借入这场演出，后来又用复数表示眼镜。

Latin spectare is the frequentative of specere: not a glance, but a looking-on, a watching. Spectaculum is the thing watched, a show. English spectacle kept the show. It can be magnificent, and it can be the scene you wish no one had stayed to see.
A second English life belongs to the same idea of looking. Spectacles are glasses, things you look through. The plural settled on the face. The singular stayed in the square, or on the stage.
Inspect examines. Spectacle exhibits. One is a verb of entry, the other a noun of display, and both are still about the eye.
拉丁语 spectare 是 specere 的重复体：不是一瞥，而是在看、在观看。Spectaculum 是被观看的东西，一场演出。英语 spectacle 留下了这场演出。它可以很壮观，也可以是你希望没有人留下来看的场面。
英语里的第二种生活仍属于同一种看。Spectacles 是眼镜，你透过去看的东西。复数落在脸上。单数留在广场上，或舞台上。
inspect 是检查。spectacle 是展示。一个是进入的动词，一个是陈列的名词，两者仍都关于眼睛。
