Looking from underneath从下面看
Latin suspicere joins sub-, under or up from below, to specere, to look. The verb could mean to look up at, and it could mean to regard with mistrust, as if the look were sideways or from under. English suspect inherits the mistrust more than the posture.
The family keeps making this point. A prefix changes the angle of the look, and the angle hardens into a moral habit. Inspect is official attention. Suspect is attention that does not trust what it sees.
The stress of the English word shifts between verb, noun, and adjective. The museum is not settling that pronunciation fight. The history of the mistrust is the exhibit.
拉丁语 suspicere 把 sub-（在下，或从下往上）接到 specere（看）上。这个动词可以是仰望，也可以是带着不信任地看，仿佛目光是斜的，或从下面来的。英语 suspect 继承的更多是不信任，而不是那个姿势。
