Seized, then noticed先被抓住，然后才被注意到
Latin percipere is per-, through or thoroughly, plus capere, to take. To perceive is to take hold of something completely. The taking can be sensory, and it can be mental. Old French passes the verb to English with both possibilities intact.
Inspect, in the seeing gallery, is a different root: specere, to look. A visitor who has just come from that room should feel the rhyme and refuse the merger. Looking-into and taking-thoroughly are two pictures of attention. English uses both for “I notice.”
The body is still in the etymology. A perception is a capture that forgot it was a capture.
拉丁语 percipere 是 per-（穿过或彻底）加 capere（取得）。感知是把一件东西完全抓住。这种取得可以是感官的，也可以是心里的。古法语把这个动词传给英语时，两种可能都还在。
观看展厅里的 inspect 是另一条根：specere，看。刚从那间屋子出来的访客应当感觉到押韵，并拒绝合并。向内看和彻底取得，是注意的两幅图画。英语用两者都表示“我注意到了”。
身体仍在词源里。一次感知是一次忘记了自己是捕获的捕获。
